Social Emotional

Social Emotional Learning encompasses many things, but the overall main concerns for SEL rest on the notion that educating the whole child should include academic learning with developed curriculums, core learning competencies, and standardized testing while simultaneously educating the child considering all of  the necessary social-emotional learning that would also include the abilities to be able to:

  • Develop healthy personal relationships
  • Treat others with respect and dignity
  • Develop the cognition to solve problems and think creatively
  • Succeed in postsecondary education and the labor market
  • And, be a contributing citizen to society and democracy

SEL Training is broken down into levels based on grade as children, adolescents, and young adults are experiencing very different aspects of social-emotional learning. SEL training and instruction is an EBP (Evidence Based Practice). Using SEL across the grades with fidelity often means revisiting some of the same or previously taught subjects and topics with increasing levels of difficulty and relevance to their particular stage of life.
