Turn Reading Data Into Clear Intervention Decisions

The Orton Gillingham Institute - Revolutionizing Online Learning

Turn Reading Data Into Clear Intervention Decisions

Practical Professional Development and Implementation Support for K–8 Schools

Schools collect more reading data than ever.

But knowing that a student is below benchmark doesn't always answer the most important questions:

What is the actual skill deficit?
How serious is it?
Which students need intervention most urgently?
What should instruction target?
How should students be grouped?
How do we know when an intervention is working—or when it needs to change?

The Orton Gillingham Institute helps schools move from data collection to instructional action.

Our literacy intervention services are designed to help teachers, interventionists, literacy teams and administrators establish a clearer, more consistent process for identifying student needs, planning intervention and monitoring progress.

Choose the Level of Support Your School Needs

OPTION 1

From Data to Intervention

One-Day Schoolwide Professional Development

A practical literacy intervention and progress-monitoring training designed to help school teams turn assessment information into better instructional decisions.

Participants Learn How To:

  • Identify specific reading skill deficits rather than relying only on an overall reading score
  • Examine needs in phonemic awareness, phonics and decoding, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension
  • Distinguish the primary instructional deficit from secondary areas of weakness
  • Determine the severity of a student's reading difficulty
  • Identify the level of urgency for intervention
  • Recognize students with the greatest potential for falling further behind without timely intervention
  • Prioritize students for instructional support
  • Create intervention groups based on skill need
  • Determine an appropriate instructional target
  • Establish intervention frequency, duration and intensity
  • Develop 6- and 12-week intervention plans
  • Select appropriate skills to monitor
  • Establish progress-monitoring schedules
  • Determine when an intervention should continue, change, intensify or be reconsidered
  • Use data more effectively during MTSS, intervention and grade-level meetings

6-Hour Full-Day Training

The full-day intensive provides deeper instruction, practical application and guided intervention planning.

In addition to learning the complete framework, participants work through student scenarios, intervention decisions, grouping considerations, progress-monitoring questions and implementation planning.

Flat School Rate

$2,950 for up to 25 participating staff

There are no individual participant registration fees.

Larger teams and districtwide groups may request a customized quote.

What Participating Schools Receive

Participating schools receive practical tools designed to support continued implementation after the training.

Resources may include:

  • Reading Skill Deficit Identification Matrix
  • Intervention Urgency Rubric
  • Student Prioritization Matrix
  • Skill-Based Intervention Grouping Planner
  • 6-Week Intervention Planning Template
  • 12-Week Intervention Planning Template
  • Progress-Monitoring Tracker
  • Intervention Decision Guide
  • MTSS/Data Meeting Planning Tools
  • Administrator Implementation Checklist
  • Sample student cases
  • Participant training materials
  • Certificates of completion

Our goal is not simply to provide information.

Teachers should leave knowing what to do next.

Need More Than a Professional Development Day?

Some schools have knowledgeable staff but need additional support establishing a consistent intervention process.

For those schools, The Orton Gillingham Institute offers 6-Week and 12-Week Literacy Implementation Partnerships.

OPTION 2

6-Week Literacy Implementation Support

Turn the Training Into Practice

The 6-week option is designed for schools that need short-term support establishing or strengthening their reading intervention process.

Rather than ending support when the professional development day ends, we work with school leadership and literacy teams as they begin applying the framework.

During the 6 Weeks, Support May Include:

  • Review of the school's current literacy and intervention process
  • Identification of existing strengths and gaps
  • Support interpreting available screening and progress-monitoring information
  • Identification of student skill deficits
  • Classification of intervention needs by skill, severity and urgency
  • Identification of students at greater risk of falling further behind without intervention
  • Assistance creating skill-based intervention groups
  • Development of intervention priorities
  • Support establishing intervention frequency and duration
  • Development of 6-week intervention plans
  • Progress-monitoring expectations
  • Intervention decision rules
  • Literacy/MTSS team consultation
  • Review of implementation challenges
  • Administrator support
  • Recommendations for next steps

Best For:

Schools that:

  • already have intervention staff but need a stronger system;
  • are reorganizing MTSS or reading intervention;
  • have assessment data but struggle to translate it into instruction;
  • need more consistent intervention practices across classrooms or grade levels;
  • need help getting an intervention process started quickly;
  • want support beyond a single professional development session.

Pricing

Customized school pricing based on enrollment, number of participating staff, grade levels and level of support requested.

OPTION 3

12-Week Literacy Implementation Partnership

Deeper Support for Schools That Need Sustainable Change

The 12-week partnership is designed for schools that need more than an initial intervention plan.

This option provides additional time to help teams implement, review, adjust and strengthen the intervention process.

The additional implementation period allows schools to examine not only what students need, but also whether the intervention process is producing the expected progress.

The Partnership May Include:

  • Initial literacy intervention needs assessment
  • Review of existing school processes
  • Identification of skill deficits by student need
  • Severity and urgency classification
  • Identification of students at heightened risk of continued academic decline
  • Student prioritization
  • Development or refinement of intervention groups
  • 6- and 12-week intervention planning
  • Progress-monitoring systems
  • Data-review support
  • Intervention fidelity discussions
  • Review of student response to intervention
  • Assistance determining whether interventions should continue, change or intensify
  • Support reorganizing groups when student needs change
  • Literacy/MTSS team consultation
  • Administrator implementation support
  • Recommendations for longer-term sustainability
  • Final implementation recommendations and next-step planning

Best For:

Schools that:

  • have significant numbers of students below benchmark;
  • need deeper Title I or MTSS intervention support;
  • lack a consistent schoolwide intervention process;
  • have students who repeatedly receive intervention without adequate progress;
  • need help establishing intervention decision rules;
  • want ongoing guidance as teachers begin implementing changes;
  • want sufficient time to examine progress and make instructional adjustments.

Pricing

Designed for School Teams

These services may be appropriate for:

  • Elementary schools
  • K–8 schools
  • Title I schools

  • MTSS teams
  • Special education teams
  • Classroom teachers

A Practical Approach to Reading Intervention

The goal is not another professional development session filled with strategies that are forgotten once staff return to their classrooms.

Our framework helps schools move through a repeatable process:

DATA → DEFICIT → SEVERITY → URGENCY → GROUPING → INTERVENTION → PROGRESS → DECISION

So instead of simply knowing:

“This student is below benchmark.”

Teams can begin answering:

What is the student's primary deficit?

How serious is the deficit?

How quickly should we respond?

What should we teach?

Who should receive instruction together?

How frequently should the intervention occur?

What should we measure?

How will we decide what happens next?
